Dec. 13, 2007: Former Sen. George Mitchell releases Mitchell Report on baseball s doping past. Clemens name is among the biggest in the report, based upon evidence provided by his former personal trainer, Brian McNamee, who told Mitchell he injected Clemens with steroids and human growth hormone numerous times in 1998, 2000 and 2001. LUPICA: CLEMENS WALKS AT PERJURY TRIAL, FANS TAKE LOSS Jan. 6, 2008: Clemens files a defamation suit against McNamee in District Court of Harris County, Tex., and denies using performance-enhancing drugs in an interview with 60 Minutes reporter Mike Wallace. Jan. 7, 2008: Clemens airs 17-minute taped phone conversation with McNamee during a Houston press conference. In the taped call, McNamee continually asks, What do you want me to do? Feb. 5, 2008: Clemens gives a sworn deposition to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. CLEMENS FOUND NOT GUILTY OF PERJURY Feb. 6, 2008: Daily News reports on its website late that day that McNamee s attorneys will present key evidence to the House panel about medical waste their client had saved. Feb. 8, 2008: Daily News is first to report that McNamee told congressional investigators about an HGH injection he gave Debbie Clemens, Roger s wife, at the Clemens Houston home while the Rocket was present. Debbie would testify in the 2012 trial that her husband was not present and that the injection took place in 2000, not between 2002-04, as McNamee claimed. CLEMENS JUROR: PROSECUTION FAILED AT TRIAL Feb. 13, 2008: Clemens and McNamee testify before the House committee. McNamee says he injected Clemens with steroids and HGH while the pitcher denies it. Clemens also testifies that former teammate Andy Pettitte misremembered a conversation the two pitchers had around 1999, 2000. Feb. 27, 2008: Congress refers case to Justice Department; DOJ is charged with investigating whether Clemens lied under oath during testimony to Congress. CLEMENS TIMELINE: FROM MITCHELL REPORT TO NOT GUILTY April 28, 2008: Daily News runs an exclusive story on Clemens long-term affair with country music singer Mindy McCready. Dec. 12, 2008: McNamee sues Clemens in New York State Supreme Court in Queens for, among other claims, libel, slander, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligence. Feb. 12, 2009: U.S. District Judge Keith P. Ellison in Houston dismisses most of Clemens lawsuit against McNamee. May 2009: Daily News Sports Investigative Team publishes, American Icon, a book about Clemens fall and the rise of PEDs in professional sports. Aug. 28, 2009: Ellison dismisses remainder of Clemens defamation suit. Aug. 19, 2010: A federal grand jury in Washington indicts Clemens on one count of obstruction of Congress, three counts of making false statements to Congress and two counts of perjury. Aug. 30, 2010: Clemens is formally arraigned in Washington, then flies to Myrtle Beach, S.C., area to play in amateur golf tournament. Feb. 3, 2011: U.S. District Judge Sterling Johnson Jr. in Brooklyn rules McNamee s civil suit will not go forward until after the criminal trial. July 6, 2011: Clemens first trial in Washington begins with jury selection. July 14, 2011: On the second day of witness testimony, U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton declares a mistrial when prosecutors introduce evidence Walton had previously barred. April 16, 2012: Clemens retrial begins with jury selection. June 12, 2012: Closing arguments are made, a day after the completion of testimony from 46 witnesses over 26 court days. June 18, 2012: After 10 hours of deliberation, the jury finds Clemens not guilty on all counts. - with AP
